Where do we
get batteries? (2007-01-12)
Hello, sorry about the late nature of this, but
better late than never I guess :) Anyway, the battery story goes as
follows:
Alice and I were tasked with finding batteries for the keyboards for the FDC.
Each keyboard took 6 D-Cell batteries to operate, and with two keyboards, we
needed to get 24 batteries (two sets to use, and two sets for spares).
Normally, this would not be a big deal, but as it happens, a massive windstorm
kicked up on the Thursday before we were to go caroling which knocked out power
to the entire region. Unfortunately, the other than portable keyboards,
another major use for D-Cell batteries is for powering flashlights. With
the power outage, there came a massive rush for D batteries, so by the time we
went shopping for them, there were literally none to be found! Every store
was sold out from Safeway, to Target, to even Fry's.
So on the day of the caroling, Alice and I went out once more to look for D
batteries, this time on Mercer Island, since they had only recently gotten their
power back. We first went to Albertson's, but they had already sold out.
At that point, we were quite worried about not being able to get the batteries
in time. So on our way back to the car, we talked about how we weren't
relying on God enough to provide, so then we decided to pray in the car before
we went to the next store. So our prayer went something like... "Dear
God, we pray for batteries at the next store we go to." So we go to
the Walgreen's down the street, and go in to ask. We asked the clerk if
there were anymore batteries, but he told us he thought they might be sold out.
However, on closer inspection, there was exactly one pack of D cell batteries
left (2 batteries). We bought them on the spot, and praised God for
delivering on our prayers.
However, 2 batteries were not nearly enough, so we decided to pray again, only
this time specifically asking for enough batteries for both keyboards and a
spare set. We then went to the Rite-Aid, and the first thing we saw was a
big sign saying "We still have D batteries". Going inside, we
were able to find more than enough batteries for the keyboards, and we were just
totally ecstatic about how wonderfully God had provided.
As it turns out though, Cindy had some batteries left over from the previous
year, so we didn't even end up needing the batteries we bought. In fact, a
single set of batteries lasted the whole night, when the previous year required
us to change them out part way through the evening. God is good!
Finally, the best part was, we were able to return our batteries the next day
for a full refund :) The end!
