Pastor Li's Sharing (2007-08-21)

It has been seven years since some brothers and I started the prison ministry in Seatac Federal Detention Center. In the beginning, we mainly served the Chinese illegal immigrants. Besides religious services, we also taught them ESL (English as second language). This was to increase their survival skills. We were blessed to witness over 90% of them accepted Christ while they were in FDC. They even brought the gospel with them to share with others in China. For example, one of the new believers whom I baptized went back to China and by accident ran into one of my church members out of over 1.3 billion people there. He passed a message to me saying that he brought his whole family to church.

Three years ago, most of the Chinese inmates left. We prayed about whether to continue our ministry or not. Got prompted us to move forward. We started to minister to non-Chinese. We had to use English and with my limited English I did with the help of the Holy Spirit.  In two years, my English improved quickly. I felt like a different person.

This year, we were told that there were a number of Vietnamese inmates that need some spiritual care. I talked to the Vietnamese ministry coordinator in the Nazarene churches of North America. He then referred me to three Vietnamese brothers/pastors. They brought their sword (the Bible) with them and brought two Vietnamese inmates to Christ the first time they were there. And we are now in the process of finding a Spanish speaking pastor. Let's see what great work God is about to do.

The prison ministry in FDC has been amazing. We have gone through many transitions. Even the audience changes week by week. It is truly a dynamic ministry. But one thing does not change - God and His love. and my heart will not change. I will not stop going to minister in FDC. This is why we rename FDC to "Faith Devotion Church".  Please contact me if you would like to join this dynamic ministry.
